Golden hour over the fields of Ruissalo island

Taken from Naantali, overlooking the archipelago. It could be a great place if it wasn't for the mutated mosquitoes that happened to be immuned to the repellent spray.

Taken from the bridge to Ruissalo island on my way back from a late cycling trip. Minor rain made the skies amazing.

Midsummer tonight + Supermoon

This is one of the Ruissalo beaches, a truly lovely place. Hopefully tonight there won't be many people so we can get some Midnight sun and Supermoon photos.

Timeless

Taken at a pier on Ruissalo island. The thick fog made the pier look like it's high in the nothingness, while it's just above water. While the photo was taken, a ship was passing by the pier, but it wasn't even a bit visible. One could hear only the engines and the waves.
A very eerie feeling.

Building the track was done entirely by volunteers, and at last the team effort was a success.

Taken some time ago at the beach of Ruissalo

Frozen seas and fallen stars

Taken at Ruissalo, while the sea was still quite frozen. The wave-like shapes form when ships pass and push water to the sides, making new layers of ice.

Cold nights, frozen sea and ships passing

We took a walk around Ruissalo, since the sea is frozen and there are shortcut paths going on the ice. While we were taking photos, that happened about 50 meters away from the ship - a Finnlines cargo ship passed really close, so we had to take some steps back to the shore, just in case.

Sadly, there hasn't been a clear night since this one.

One of the very few sunny days we've had in months. 

Finally, the brightness lasted longer than 10 minutes, so we could take photos.

Location is Ruissalo island, part of the Turku archipelago.

Me and Kalle got to the top of an old war tower at Ruissalo and managed to successfully shoot the amazing sunset. The price paid was epic cold shower seconds after the last piece of the panorama was taken. Totally worth it.

Morning at Ruissalo

 

Oh the joy of crisp morning air in the forest! And because it’s Finland, deers and bunnies are running in the fields.

I got out at 4 a.m, cycled about 10km to that small rocky beach, shot the sunrise and came back home. 

On my way there, I managed to find a really awesome trail that was going straight through the forest. Somehow, on the route back, I took a turn that lead me to normal asphalt bike path. Fortunately there were some friendly geese that allowed me to take photos without going after me.

Canon 40mm pancake lens photos

Kalle got recently the new 40mm "pancake" lens from Canon. I can't really describe the huge surprise we both had after seeing the first shots done with it. Sure, high quality was in mind, but the small lens, looking bit like the body cap of 5d mkII really jumped above expectations.
